Do not ever expect,
By doing good and right then we will be free from a reproach and ridicule.
Nor are we expecting,
By not do wrong morally, we shall be free from insult.
Even a Buddha who has perfectly holy,
As well as his actions had been pure,
Remained being insulted,
Being hated,
Even reproached and mocked by others because of his inner darkness
insulting a Buddha.
As long as we do not steal and do not hurt other creatures,
Nothing to fear.
Let a thousand people mock you,
Not necessarily a thousand people are aware of the purpose and your inner goodwill.
A thousand people with the delusion is not comparable with the wisdom of a
noble exercise.
We need to learn to toughen up,
And began to appreciate our own minds and hearts,
No longer tossed around by the words of others.
Let us stand on our own feet,
Not solely dictated by others,
By other people's comments,
By the desire of others,
Nor by the opinions and mockery of others.
Like a captain,
Hundreds of his crew may have a thousand speculations about ocean weather
that day,
However, a boat may only have one leader,

We need to always remember,
No matter what anybody else says about us,
The important thing is that we understand who we are and know exactly what
we are doing.
Stupid people only see the outward form of our actions,
Never meaning behind every action and our policy.
Bullhead is not good at playing chess,
They were only able to see as far as two or three steps at the pawn on a
chess table.
A wise,
Look far ahead,
And being able to see the intent behind every action taken by our main
opponent.
Do not be terrified of the comments of others.
A million other people are not comparable with the wisdom of a man.
Formerly so,

Even an ascetic who respected and highly regarded by the gods,

The fool saw gems as dirt,
While looking at the dirt as a jewel,
That is called ignorance.
A person who has reached the stage whom no longer oscillate by a reproach
or praise,
Dwell in the clarity of mind and soul,
Called by the Buddha, as an unwavering mind.

Jangan pernah kita mengharap,
Dengan berbuat baik dan benar
maka kita akan bebas dari celaan dan olokan.
Janganlah juga kita
mengharap,
Dengan tidak berbuat salah
secara moral kita akan bebas dari hinaan.
Bahkan seorang Buddha yang
telah suci sempurna,
Serta telah murni tindak-tanduknya,
Tetap dihina,
Dibenci,
Bahkan dicela dan diolok oleh
orang lain yang karena kegelapan batinnya menghina seorang Buddha.
Selama kita tidak mencuri dan
tidak menyakiti mahkluk lain,
Tiada yang perlu kita takutkan.
Biarlah seribu orang mengolok
Anda,
Belum tentu seribu orang
tersebut paham atas tujuan dan niat baik Anda yang sebenarnya.
Seribu orang dengan kegelapan
batin tidaklah sebanding dengan kebijaksanaan seorang berhati luhur.
Kita perlu belajar untuk
tegar,
Dan mulai menghargai pikiran
dan hati kita sendiri,
Tidak lagi diombang-ambing
oleh perkataan orang lain.
Biarlah kita berdiri di atas
kaki kita sendiri,
Tidak melulu didikte oleh
orang lain,
Oleh komentar orang lain,
Oleh keinginan orang lain,
Ataupun oleh pendapat dan
olokan orang lain.
Bagaikan seorang nakhoda,
Ratusan awak kapalnya mungkin
memiliki seribu spekulasi mengenai cuaca lautan hari itu,
Namun sebuah kapal hanya
boleh memiliki sebuah pemimpin,
Barulah kapal itu dapat terus
melanjutkan perjalanan.
Janganlah kita mengkritik
orang lain yang berani mengambil resiko.
Ketika sang pengambil resiko
ternyata menemui kesalahan atau kegagalan,
Kita tetap perlu menghargai
keberanian dirinya yang dalam mengambil resiko.
Orang yang hanya menjadi
penonton dan berdiam diri,
Tentunya tidak mengambil
resiko apapun,
Sehingga dirinya ialah
pengecut bila hanya berani berkomentar dan menghakimi orang lain.
Tiada yang pasti dalam
kehidupan.
Bagaikan kecenderungan sebuah
cuaca,
Setiap prediksi dapat luput,
Dan setiap resiko memiliki
potensi kegagalan juga sekaligus potensi berhasil.
Janganlah kita menjatuhkan
mental orang yang berani mengambil resiko, terlebih melecehkannya.
Menyadari bahwa berbuat benar
dan tidak memiliki kesalahan secara moral,
Tetap berisiko dicela dan
dihina,
Bahkan dilecehkan dan dilawan
oleh orang lain,
Semestinya telah membuat kita
menyadari,
Bahwa hidup adalah perihal
membuat keputusan.
Tiada hal besar di dunia ini bila
tiada orang yang berani mengambil resiko.
Tiada hal mengagumkan di
dunia ini bila tiada orang yang berani membuat penjelajahan baru seperti
Copernicus sang penemu benua baru.
Tiada kebenaran sejati yang
dapat kita kenali bila seorang Siddharta Gaotama tidak mengambil resiko
kegagalan besar bila dirinya gagal menempuh praktik pertapaan.
Kita perlu senantiasa mengingat,
Tidak penting apa kata orang
lain mengenai diri kita,
Yang terpenting ialah kita
paham siapa diri kita dan tahu benar apa yang sedang kita lakukan.
Orang bodoh hanya melihat
bentuk luar dari perbuatan kita,
Tidak pernah maksud dibalik
setiap aksi dan kebijakan kita.
Orang dungu tidak pandai
bermain catur,
Mereka hanya mampu melihat
sejauh dua atau tiga langkah biji pion di atas meja catur.
Seorang bijaksana,
Melihat jauh ke depan,
Dan mampu melihat maksud
dibalik setiap aksi yang diambil lawan main kita.
Janganlah gentar terhadap
komentar orang lain.
Sejuta orang lain tidak
sebanding dengan kebijaksanaan seorang manusia.
Dahulu demikian,
Kini pun demikian,
Dan dimasa mendatang juga selalu
senantiasa adanya.
Bahkan seorang petapa yang
disegani dan sangat dihormati para dewa,
Dicela hanya karena
penampilan dirinya yang menyerupai gelandangan.
Si bodoh melihat permata
sebagai kotoran,
Sementara melihat kotoran
sebagai permata,
Itulah yang disebut sebagai kegelapan
batin.
Seseorang yang telah mencapai
tahap tidak lagi terombang-ambil oleh celaan ataupun pujian,
Berdiam dalam kejernihan
pikiran dan jiwa,
Disebut oleh Sang Buddha
sebagai batin yang tak tergoyahkan.
